This show, first broadcast on October 6, 2017, looks at the work of three popular minimalist composer/musicians, all of whom worked with pulse-driven music: Terry Riley, who brought improvisation techniques into his composition; Steve Reich, who composed both electronic and instrumental works; and Philip Glass, who found success in opera as well as music for his distinctive ensemble. Quotations from my own interviews with Riley, Reich, and Glass are included. The pieces played are:

TERRY RILEY
In C (1964)

STEVE REICH
Come Out (1966)
Variations for Winds, Strings, and Keyboards (1979)

PHILIP GLASS
Dance No. 4 (1979)
Einstein on the Beach, Act IV, Scene 3, “Spaceship” (1975)
